WHAT WE’RE MADE OF: Get to know Fibrex® Windows

January 10, 2020

A superior window starts with a super material

Do you know what makes our windows so special?  It’s what they’re made of – a revolutionary material called Fibrex®.  A specialized composite of wood fibers and polymers, Fibrex® material combines the best features of all window frame materials into one product without the flaws.

We developed Fibrex® as the ideal material for a number of reasons:

1. Strength

Fibrex® composite material is twice as strong as vinyl.  This means we can make our sash and frames narrower, and narrower frames means more glass and more view.  Vinyl frames are known to have a high rate of expansion and contraction, which means they can warp and bow, breaking the glass seal.  Wood may be strong, but inconsistencies in the grain, knots, or moisture content can all cause problems.

2. Insulation

Fibrex® material is an excellent thermal insulator, helping your home stay warmer in winter and cooler in summer.  When our Fibrex® window frames combine with our High-Performance™ Low-E4® glass, you get incredible energy efficiency that can save you money on your heating and cooling costs.

We can help you stay warmer in our cold Maine winters

3. Low Maintenance

Because Fibrex® is a composite material, it will never rot, mold, warp, blister, or peel.  Fibrex® never needs painting or scraping, as the color is permanently bonded into the material.  Fibrex® gives you more color options than vinyl, without the headache of maintaining painted wood.

4. Beauty

Renewal by Andersen® windows preserve and complement the architectural beauty of your home.  Fibrex® material can be made into any type of window, including curved specialty windows, and with customizable frame and sash designs, grille patterns, and color options.  Most other replacement windows have square profiles that can look out of place in your home.  Vinyl frames are often thicker, reducing glass area, and fiberglass can only be made in straight lineals.

Curves, colors, styles – we create windows that complement your home

5. Environmental Sustainability

Andersen® and Renewal by Andersen® Fibrex windows, being composite, are made from recycled materials, and are ENERGY STAR® qualified.  In fact, last year, Renewal by Andersen earned the 2019 ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year – Sustained Excellence award for the fifth time.   Renewal by Andersen® windows have achieved the highest SCS Global Services certified recycled content values for windows.  40% of the raw material by weight used to make Fibrex® composite material is clean, reclaimed wood fiber.  Reclaimed materials used in the manufacturing process are also reground and reused.
